How you can support the Initiative today
The Initiative does not accept donations at its present stage. What helps now is expertise: corrections to what we publish, pointers to collections, comments on the Charter and interest in pilot projects.
Why we accept no donations
The Initiative does not yet have legal personality of its own, and its legal form has not been decided. Without legal personality no receipt for tax purposes can be issued, and any money given to the Initiative would in fact reach its founder personally. That is not acceptable to us.
For this reason there is no donate button and there are no bank details on this site, and we do not accept donations offered in any other way.
Open Whether the Initiative will accept funds in future, and in what form, depends on its legal form, which has not been decided. If it does, the terms are those set out in the draft Charter: disclosure of where funds come from, a cap per funder, and no funding tied to particular results.
How you can help today
Corrections
If you find an error in something the Initiative has published, whether in the Charter, a method note or a programme description, please tell us where it occurs. Examples are a saying attributed to the wrong person, an inaccurate reading or a misused term. It helps if you name the source you rely on.
Pointers to collections
Tell us about manuscript collections whose catalogues or digitised images are openly accessible. A link to the catalogue at the holding institution is enough; there is no need to send copies of digitised images. Private and family collections are included only with the written consent of their owners.
Comments on the Charter
The draft Charter will be open for public comment; the dates and how to send comments are set out on its page. The most useful comments address a specific article and either propose alternative wording or explain where the difficulty lies.
Interest in pilot projects
If you work in a library, a manuscript centre or a research group and are considering a pilot project, the paths to collaboration are described on the Working with Us page.
How we handle contributions
- We check every correction against the source before we change anything.
- Accepted corrections are entered in the change log of the Charter or of the method concerned.
- Comments on the Charter are published only with their authors' consent, with or without their names, as they prefer.
- We do not take up disputed religious questions, and we do not publish personal attacks.
- We usually reply within ten working days.
